Personal Pet Services

Pet care and products

As a successful pet business person, your business will rely on some fundamentals. One of these will no doubt be your supply chain, with a lot resting on this if you are going to be able to run your business efficiently and make enough money from it. Some people think it’s as easy as searching wholesale pet supplies UK, but sadly, there is no guaranteeing that this will set you up with good suppliers. Many rely on word of mouth and won’t necessarily be spending money advertising online, which can make it much harder for you to find them. There are other avenues that will be more useful for you when you are trying to find wholesale supplies for your pet related business.

One of the best things you can do is talk to others in your industry. Don’t view them as competition – view them as a resource. You can help support each other in your business ventures without having to sacrifice anything for yourself, and it is better to be part of a network than trying to go it alone as a business. Ask them about suppliers they might be happy to recommend, or if this isn’t an option, then you can just generally discuss your businesses and share ideas with each other. There will always be contacts that you can share, for example, if you run a pet shop business and you would like to begin offering a new product line, you friends in the industry may know up and coming wholesalers who can provide you with everything you need. It is very much a two way street in this kind of business.

Here are some other ideas for finding wholesalers to work with:

  • Don’t work with just one wholesaler. It is always a good idea to shop around, even if you don’t need a new supplier at that exact moment in time. Talk to others and see what they can offer you, asking about their product ranges and making sure you have a good understanding of how you might be able to work together.
  • Join up to networks and directories. There are lots of very good networks run by prestigious pet business publications and professionals. See if you can join up to or follow some of these, and check the directory listings they have online. These can be very useful in finding new suppliers and wholesalers to work with.
  • Network. Talk to others in your industry all the time and if you can, attend networking events or shows that are intended purely for the pet business community. This will allow you to widen your network, meet new potential business contacts and come away filled with ideas.

If you feel like you aren’t getting enough out of your current pet shop suppliers, you can always negotiate with them. Never forget the power of this in business, allowing you to drive down prices and increase your margins. It might be that they will be willing to drop their price per unit if you buy a bigger quantity of products, so be prepared to talk numbers.
